In a society where the generating, processing and transferring of knowledge is becoming increasingly important, we have to deal critically with these developments. The University, as a crucial institution of the knowledge society, can make an important contribution to this discussion. I wish the conference every success and many innovative and fruitful insights. |

The starting point is the perception that economical criteria have increasingly played a bigger role in the constitution of the knowledge society in the past decades. Many of these developments are welcome but not all of them. So far, there have only been approaches in the discussion of the role of economical criteria from a basic point of view. This congress will hopefully take us a step further. Renowned national and international speakers will approach the subject from different perspectives and analyse its usefulness. Relating to concrete aspects of the knowledge society, the subject will be discussed in parallel scientific tracks. We expect an exciting and informative congress. I would be delighted to be able to welcome you in December here in Leipzig. Prof. Johannes Ringel Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science
