Leipziger SPINNEREI

As an historical factory the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei had developed into the largest cotton-spinning mill on the European mainland in the years between 1884 and 1907. Encompassing approximately 12 hectares the area included - in addition to the factory itself - gardens, workers accommodation and a kindergarten. After the decline of cotton yarn production in the early 1990s, the factory was used for different purposes in the following years.
Today art production, presentation and trade have evolved into major activities at SPINNEREI. Over 100 professional artists - just in the area of fine arts - work within the community. Art from Leipzig and from all over the world is presented by 11 galleries and their exhibition spaces

Asisi Panometer

Experience the rainforest at close quarters in Leipzig: The World’s largest 360° panorama at the Asisi Panometer Leipzig

Yadegar Asisi’s magical picture of nature has been on display at the Asisi Panometer Leipzig, in a historical gasometer belonging to the city’s department of works, since March 2009. The dimensions of the new panorama by the artist from Berlin are monumental- at 100 meters long and 30 meters high, it is as large as a football pitch..

AMAZONIA pays homage to Alexander von Humboldt, the greatest German natural scientist, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his death in 2009. Throughout his life Humboldt, who was also a landscape painter, was fascinated by the medium of the panorama. He expressed the wish to see a circular painting portraying the world of nature, rather than the usual themes of battles and cities. And Asisi shares this same fascination.
On his four journeys to the Braizilian Rainforest, Yadegar Asisi collected over 25,000 photographs and countless sketches, which he then put together to create his magical picture AMAZONIA. Standing on the viewing platform, six meters above the ground, you have a magnificent view deep into the rainforest all around you as though you were standing in a clearing. Your gaze wanders over the fascinating Amazonian landscape: the treetops of gigantic tropical trees, fascinating plants, an amazing variety of animals. Here and there, you will catch a glimpse of a native of the Amazon region. Thanks to the extremely high resolution of the picture it is possible, with the help of binoculars, to discover details such as a caterpillar on a leaf, sloths hanging from the branches or parrots in the treetops. If you look carefully, you can even find the artist himself among the rainforest scenery.

Thanks to the alternating day and night show, you can experience the magical world of the rainforest from sunrise to sunset. Tropical sound effects and the enchanting AMAZONIA music composed by Eric Babak round off the unique panoramic experience.
