diffusion-fundamentals

Welcome to the DIFFUSION homepage,

and welcome in joining us to celebrate the fifth anniversary of diffusion-fundamentals.org and the success of the Diffusion-Fundamentals II Conference in L'Aquila 2007.

We take it as a most agreeable message of the past five years that
diffusion-fundamentals.org
has been accepted as a communication platform for the community.

Many thanks to all of you for your kind interest, sympathy and cordial support. We gratefully acknowledge the numerous suggestions and the many contributions to the different facets of our diffusion homepage, in particular the numerous exciting papers and posters during the Diffusion-Fundamentals Conference Series and many beautiful articles in our Online-Journal. We particularly appreciate the concern of our Editorial Board and of many more colleagues in reviewing these contributions and of Tomas Binder who cared for the perfect insertion of all these items into the web.

Following your explicit suggestions and the implicit message, derived from your use of the different options originally provided on the homepage, we have made some changes and hope to offer our homepage now in an even more user-friendly form.

In view of the success of the Diffusion-Fundamentals Conference Series (with Diffusion Fundamentals III settled already for October 2009 in Athens, and Diffusion Fundamentals IV in 2011 in USA) and of the Diffusion-Fundamentals Online Journal, these two issues shall clearly remain in the centre of our activities.

Moreover, the diffusion homepage strives to remain a source of valuable information for the community. This includes the Books section. A section with Links and Tools contains a compilation of Groups active in the field of diffusion and their projects and links to other websites (like the DIMAT-2000-initiated website) and to References/Visualizations/ Animation which may be offered by some groups for use by and/or for information to the community. Under Archives everything will be stored which has appeared in our website, including the first (2002) Editorial, and the compilation of the last years' References. Finally, a section distinctly referring to Diffusion News is scheduled to inform about Conferences / Workshops, Research Projects and offers of Jobs in the field.

Please, continue to provide us with your information
since it is only your input that can appear on our homepage!

It is with great pleasure that we use this Editorial to congratulate the member of our Editorial Board, Gerhard Ertl, for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2007. We combine our best wishes with our cordial thanks for all his sympathy, advice and help.
