Compounded Building Blocks with New Properties

Complex Matter

This profile area investigates the fundamental properties of molecules or nano-objects, depending on the subject.

The participating institutions belong to the natural and life sciences. The profile area is headed by Prof. Dr. Evamarie Hey-Hawkins (chemistry) and Prof. Dr. Marius Grundmann (experimental physics).

Research goals are, for example, the synthesis of building blocks for the construction of objects with new properties such as biosensors and superconductors, or the deliberate generation of hierarchical structures (nanoscale cavities) that can be used in selective catalytic reductions. The research is carried out in collaboration between theoreticians and experimenters.
