Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Master of Arts (M.A.)

Requirements

For the bachelor programme: outstanding artistic talent and special skills for the writing profession, examination in the form of literary work samples and aptitude test For the master programme: diploma or bachelor degree from the Institute of German Literature Leipzig (DLL), comparable qualification from other universities, aptitude test

Description

The bachelor programme aims to give students practical literary abilities and knowledge of the history and theory of literature. Imparting practical literary abilities helps to prepare and develop individual writing ability and surety of style and will qualify students to write their own literary texts independently. Imparting knowledge of the history and theory of literature will enable students to analyse their own artistic creations, to reflect on literature and to explain literature from a historical standpoint. The programme is divided into four areas: prose, lyric poetry, drama and new media, of which one must be selected as a core subject. The non-consecutive master programme is strongly application-oriented with the aim of implementing a large literary project, which will preferably be ready to be published or performed. This can entail literary work from the traditional genres of lyric poetry, prose and drama, or cross-genre and multi-discipline projects, or intermedial literary projects in their different forms. In particular students will be qualified to deliberate on their own artistic production in the context of past and present aesthetic developments. The programme is divided into the four areas of prose, lyric poetry, dramatic writing and medial forms of literature, one of which must be selected as a core subject. Further modules are studied in each selected field.
