Lutz Mükke, Ph.D.
Apprenticeship and work as maker of marquetry and cabinet maker in East Germany (in 1987 –1990). University-entrance diploma via second-chance education and study at Leipzig University and Makerere University Kampala/Uganda in Journalism and African studies from 1996 to 2003. Practical training at an daily newspaper from 1999 to 2000. Journalistic experiences in print, TV, photo and newsagency; in rural-remote local newsrooms up to work for national media like Die Zeit, FAZ, First German Television (ARD). Lutz Mükke is Executive Editor and publisher of the international journalism magazine Message. Editor and reporter for the international journalism magazine Message from 2003 to 2007. In parallel work as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Practical Journalism Research, Leipzig. Lectures about foreign news, media journalism, "Third World" reporting, methodical investigation and Europaen journalism at the Institute of Communication and Media Science at Leipzig University and Leipzig School of Media. Teaching assignment at the State University of Belorussia/Minsk. Practical and scientific specialisation on foreign reporting, foreign correspondents and media journalism. Doctoral thesis about foreign news.
Travells around the Globe. Reporting from crisis and war zones like DR Congo, Somalia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Ethiopia or Brussels.
Member of Netzwerk Recherche and the Board of the European Fund for Investigative Journalism. Journalism prizes: Lorenzo Natali Prize 2004, Otto Brenner Prize 2006
