The Centre for Advanced Studies (ZHS) at the University of Leipzig was founded in 1993. It is intended to promote interdisciplinary projects in research, teaching and further education. The aim is to enhance and promote the international attractiveness of the University of Leipzig for scholars from abroad.
In cooperation with the Research Academy Leipzig, leading international scientists are brought together with the best qualified young academics in an “Experiment of mutual understanding” (W. Lepenies). Thus an atmosphere of intellectual debate will be established as a ground for scientific innovation.
Twice a year the Leibniz Professorship is assigned with internationally known visiting scientists from abroad who are invited to the University of Leipzig for a semester in each case.
Furthermore, with the installation of the Leibniz Programme, scientists from Leipzig have the possibility to be exempted from the tasks of their faculties during a sabbatical in order to do research at the ZHS.
Moreover, an Emeriti Programme is developed at the ZHS, in particular in support of those who do a PhD at the Research Academy Leipzig. |
