FAQ guesthouse IBZ

1.  Who is eligible to stay at the guesthouse IBZ ?

The guesthouses IBZ is available for academics who are invited to do research or teach at one of Leipzigs research or university institutions on a post-graduate level (accommodation from 3 months up to 2 years).

Please note, that the guest houses are not available for student accommodation. Please contact the Student services of the university (www.studentenwerk-leipzig.de).

3. Can I receive packages before I arrive at the guest house?

Unfortunately not, since there are not always staff members at the guesthouse. We apologize for any inconvenience.

4. Will I have access to a phone right away?

Yes, your phone is working for all calls within the university and you can receive phone calls. Your phone number is as follows:

•  from abroad: 0049 341- 97-309.. (the last two digits are the number of your apartment)

•  from within Germany: 0341-97-309.. (the last two digits are the number of your apartment)

For all calls outside of the university you can use a private calling card offered at the IBZ.

5. Do I have internet access?

Yes, all apartments have a high-speed internet connection via the university server. This service is included in the rent.

6. Are parking spaces available?

Yes, we have underground parking for our guests. This service will be charged at € 31,00 per month (€ 37,00 for less than 6 months).

7. What kind of equipment do the apartments provide?

All apartments are furnished and have a seperate kitchen and bathroom. The kitchens are fully equipped with refrigerator, hotplates and microwaves (studios and 1 bedroom apartments) or full stoves (2 bedroom apartments), coffee makers, water cookers, toasters and dishes, pots and pans. There are pillows and blankets, sheets and towels will be changed fortnightly. Furthermore, there are TV, a radio with cd-player and a radio alarm clock.

8. We have small children. What kind of special equipment do you offer?

We offer special beds (cribs) for babies and small children, a baby bathtub and a highchair. There is a storage room for bikes and strollers. The IBZ also has a fenced-in playground with sandbox and swing.

9. Do you have washers and dryers in the house?

Yes, there is a common laundry room in the guest house. It offers two washers and two dryer both operate with coins (one load of washing: € 2,00 and one load of drying € 1,50). There is room to line-dry clothes and two ironing boards and irons.

10. Is there a storage rooms for bikes?

Yes, there is a common room for bikes and stroller.

11. Does the rent include utility costs and taxes?

The rent includes all taxes and utility costs like water, heat, sewage, garbage disposal a limited amount of electricity (if exceeded the price is € 0,35 per KW/h). Furthermore, the rent covers internet access, cable TV and a monthly cleaning of the apartments. The only additional cost you will have to pay is the federal fee for public access for TV and radio at € 17,98 per month. By law you have to pay that fee.

12. Which costs need to be paid on top of the rent?

•  a fortnightly change of bed linen and towels: per person € 16,00 a month

•  federal fee for public TV and radio access (“GEZ-Gebuehr”): € 17,98 per month

•  for underground parking: € 31,00 a month (€ 37,00 less than 6 months)

•  exceeding electricity limit: € 0,35 per KW/h

13. How can I pay my monthly rent?

We only accept bank transfer or direct deposit into our account.

14. Is it possible to smoke at the apartments in the guesthouse?

No, it is not allowed. Please note that all apartments are non-smoking apartments. There are balconies at the guest house where you can smoke.
