FAQ guesthouse Ritterstraße

1.  Who is eligible to stay at the guesthouse Ritterstrasse?

The guesthouse Ritterstrasse is available for academics who come to Leipzig for a short period of time from 1-7 days (conferences, symposia etc.).

Furthermore it is available for academics who are invited to do research or teach at one of Leipzigs research or university institutions on a post-graduate level (accommodation up to 1 year).

Please note, that the guest houses are not available for student accommodation. Please contact the student services of the university ( www.studentenwerk-leipzig.de ).

3.  Can I receive packages before I arrive at the guesthouse?

Unfortunately not, since there are not always staff members at the guesthouse. We apologize for any inconvenience.

4. Will I have access to a phone right away?

Yes, your phone is working for all calls within the university and you can receive phone calls. For all calls outside of the university and abroad your host institution needs to activate the phone.

5. Do I have internet access?

Yes, all apartments can be connected to the university server via wireless-LAN. Before this service will be available you need a special software which you get from the house assistant Mr. Güssmer.

6. Are parking spaces available?

No, we are located downtown and parking close to the building is not available. There is a public underground parking 5 minutes away at Augustusplatz ( http://www.augustusplatz.de/big/indexbig.html )

7. What kind of equipment do the apartments provide?

All apartments are furnished and have a seperate kitchen and bathroom . The kitchens are fully equiped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee makers, water cookers, toasters and dishes, pots and pans. There are pillows and blankets, sheets and towels will be changed fortnightly. Furthermore, there are TV, a radio with cd player and a radio alarm clock.

8. We have small children. What kind of special equipment do you offer?

We offer special beds (cribs) for babies and small children. There is also a storage room for bikes and strollers. Be aware that there is no elevator in the house which is six stories high.

9. Do you have washers and dryers in the house?

Yes, there is a common laundry room in the guest house. It offers two washers and two dryers both operate with coins. There is room to line-dry clothes and two ironing boards and irons.

10. Is there a storage rooms for bikes?

Yes, there is a common room for bikes and strollers.

11. Does the rent include utility costs and taxes?

The rent includes all taxes and utility costs like water, heat, sewage, garbage disposal a limited amount of electricity (if exceeded the price is € 0,35 per KW/h). Furthermore, the rent covers internet access, cabel TV and a fortnightly cleaning of the apartments. The only additional cost you will have to pay is the federal fee for public access for TV and radio at € 17,98 per month. By law you have to pay that fee.

12. Which costs need to be paid on top of the rent?

•  a fortnightly change of sheets and towels: per person € 8,00 a month

•  federal fee for public TV and radio access (“GEZ-Gebühr”): € 17,98 a month

•  exceeding electricity limit: € 0,35 per KW/h

13. How can I pay my monthly rent?
