On 1st April 2015 Peter Lambertz defended his PhD dissertation "Divisve matters. Aesthetic difference and authority production in a Congolese spiritual movement 'from Japan'" at the University of Utrecht as final part of a co-tutelle agreement between the Universities of Leipzig and Utrecht. Peter Lambertz was part of the DFG Graduate Research Training Group (Graduiertenkolleg) 1261 at the University of Leipzig, supervised by Prof. Dr. Adam Jones (University of Leipzig) and Prof. Dr. Birgit Meyer (University of Utrecht). On this occasion Prof. Dr. Rose Marie Beck (University of Leipzig) was one of the opponents at the ceremony. The PhD was awarded with the degree "cum laude", the highest possible distinction in the Netherlands.
The photograph demonstrates the formality of the ceremony much alive in the Netherlands: For the occasion the professors wear an academic gown and cap, of which the University of Utrecht keeps a stock so as to borrow them to foreign professors. As in Germany a defense is a very sober affair, the Leipzig professors truly enjoyed themselves, more so as we were able to promote an excellent young scholar.
