Am 30.5. findet im NSG S 202, 15- 17 Uhr eine Informationsveranstaltung zu Studieren im Ausland, Schwerpunkt Erasmus statt.

Im SoSe 2013 bietet das Institut für Afrikanistik zusammen mit dem Institut für Ethnologie eine Vortragsreihe zum Thema "Stadt als Soziale Praxis" an. Die Ringvorlesung findet jeweils Montags 17.15-18.45 Uhr im HG HS 5 statt.

Zeit: 13.00-17.00, Ort: Thomaskirchhof 20. Berichte wird es unter anderem geben zu: "Welcome to Africa", den Master- und dem PhD-Programmen mit der Addis Ababa University, etc.

With effect of October 1, 2009, Prof. Dr. phil. habil. H. Ekkehard Wolff retired from the Chair of African Studies (Afrikanistik - African Languages and Literatures) at the University of Leipzig. He was Professor of Afrikanistik at the University of Hamburg when he took over  the Leipzig Chair in August 1994. He served the Institut für Afrikanistik as its Geschäftsführender Direktor for a total of 6 years. For another 3 years, he had served the Fakultät für Geschichte, Kunst- und Orientwissenschaften as Deputy Dean (Prodekan). Prof. Wolff has returned, after 15 exciting years in Leipzig, to Northern Germany and now lives in the rural parts of Schleswig-Holstein on the shores of the Baltic Sea fjord Schlei.
Prof. Wolff continues to be active as adviser, author, consultant, evaluator, researcher, reviewer, and visiting academic, both on national and international levels. Further, he continues to serve as (board) member of learned associations and as editor of academic book series and member of editorial boards of learned journals. He also continues to supervise ongoing research projects and doctoral dissertations.

Capacity Building & Alumni Networking

1.) Prof. Wolff continues as one of the Central Coordinators at the University of Leipzig, together with Deputy Rector Prof. Claus Altmayer (Herder Institut), of the topical

German-African Network of Alumni and Alumnae (ganaa)
on “Multilingualism and Language Policies in Africa (and Europe)”

with regional branches in Oran, Nairobi, Stellenbosch, and Cotonou. This network was kicked off and is currently funded with support by the DAAD (2007-2009, 2010-2011). It organises and runs international expert workshops for alumni from Africa (capacity building) on issues regarding Multilingualism and Language Policies in Africa (and Europe). Workshops have been held successfully in  Leipzig (2008), Oran (2008), Stellenbosch (2009), Nairobi (2009), and Dakar (2010). The next workshop has been scheduled to be held again in Leipzig (August/Spetember 2011).

2.) From September 2011, Prof. Wolff will be actively involved in capacity building at the School of Humanities and Natural Sciences, Adama University in Adama, Ethiopia, in the framework of the Stiftungsinitiative Gottfried Herder, in particular in the fields of African linguistics and Oromo Studies.
