Introduction

Diagnostic, Treatment and Research of Male Infertility

The Andrology in the Clinic of Dermatology as well as the Clinic of Urology see about 580 new patients with andrological problems each year.

The centre is mainly active in the evaluation and management of infertile patients including cryopreservation of semen and tissue (about 200 semen samples per year), assisted fertilization e.g. IUI, IVF and ICSI, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism and delayed puberty. Moreover, patients with sexual deviation, intersexuality, cryptorchism, gynaecomastia, varicocele, testicular cancer are treated.

The seminal fluid analysis follows the WHO guidelines and is supplemented by a computer-assisted method for sperm motion analysis (Mika-Medical-System). External quality control is run by three independent groups (Rotterdam, Copenhagen and Muenster). An informal internal quality control system is operated for semen analysis based on the relational database management system Winsperm ® 2003.
