The Research Group Communicative Understanding is a joint project of philosophers, philosophers of science and computer scientists at the University of Leipzig. It started on April 1st, 1998, and is financed by the German Science Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), which agreed to its establishment on October 1997. The Reserach Group has a duration of 6 years, with an interim assessment after 3 years. It is affiliated to the Center for Higher Studies (Zentrum für Höhere Studien) of the University of Leipzig. The Center for Higher Studies was founded in 1994 as a central institution of the university with the task of developing and coordinating interdisciplinary projects.
