In Artificial Intelligence, there have been various dialectical approaches to a proof theory for plausible reasoning in recent years. These approaches, although leading to precise conceptions of plausible inference, neglect essential aspects of practical reasoning and argumentation such as the context. In philosophical theories of argumentation, various attempts have been made to capture the context by establishing the rules of rational discourse comprising the definition of roles, of rights and duties, and of the burden to proof. By combining computational and philosophical approaches to dialectics, new formalizations capturing aspects such as fairness, efficiency, and resource limitations become possible.
