In the frame of the project, a reference model of middle atmosphere winds
from the stratosphere to the lower thermosphere (20-120 km) will be constructed.
Due to some lack of data in the mesosphere, the model will consist of numerical
model output with assimilation of existing data. An updated purely empirical
model will be constructed for the mesosphere/lower thermosphere. In the stratosphere,
analysis and reanalysis data will be used.
The objectives of the project are:
| · to update existing
fully empirical models of mesosphere/lower thermosphere zonal mean winds
from ground-based and space-based measurements, · to construct a reference model of stratospheric zonal mean winds from analysis data (UKMO, NCAR/NCEP), · to include information of stationary planetary waves into the model, · to estimate the degree of variability and possible trends for these data, · to construct an integrated semiempirical model through assimilating the aforementioned data into a mechanistic circulation model, · to validate the results using additional ground-based and space-based measurements. |
The project is scheduled for the years 2004 - 2006.
