Nordamerikanische Indianersprachen weisen eine erstaunliche Vielfalt morphologischer und phonologischer Systeme auf. Viele dieser Sprachen sind polysynthetisch, inkorporieren und weisen komplexe Prozesse von Valenzveränderung und Kongruenz auf. Schwerpunkt des Kurses ist Affigierung und ihre Interaktion mit phonologischen Sandhi-Prozessen in den wichtigsten Sprachfamilien (Algonkin, Eskimo-Aleutisch, Irokesisch, Maskoki, Penutisch, Salish und Athabaskisch). Dabei interessiert uns besondere die zyklische und stratale Struktur dieser Sprachen und die Herausforderung für stratale Modelle durch sogenannte templatische Morphologie.
