The headquarters of the firm Clauss & Co. were located at Leipzig's Waldstrasse 20. The firm specialized in producing automatic zithers under the brand name "chordephon." Mechanical zithers were so popular from 1893 until about 1910 that they were mass-produced. Clauss & Co. was founded in 1895; in the de Wit catalogue of 1926, however, the firm is no longer listed.
