The Instrument bears a signature on the nameboard of Girolamo Zenti. The harpsichord here features special divided accidentals. Tuning systems of the 17th century were not meant for all 24 major and minor keys. Because divided accidentals make it possible to distinguish, for instance, between D-sharp and E-flat and G-sharp and A-flat, the tonal range of a given tuning system was considerably expanded. The drawbacks of an instrument with divided accidentals include time-consuming tuning and difficulty managing a differently-construed keyboard.
