This piece of Biedermeier-style furniture, beautifully veneered in maple, was intended for storing clothes and linen. The centrally-placed clock, which sounds on the hour, is framed at the top by a historical scene painted on a sheet of tin. The scene shows Constantine with the Holy Cross. The clock itself was mass-produced in Germany's Black Forest region. The clock-driven barrel organ hidden inside the wardrobe has a repertory of eight short country dances and marches played by two rows of pipes in contrasting tone colours.
