Master of Science (International Physics Studies Program)

Information for the IPSP Program

The International Physics Studies Program (IPSP) was founded especially for students from foreign countries who would like to avail the opportunity to study physics in Germany but haven't developed their skills in this language yet. An internationally cast staff provides general courses in physics, mathematics, computer sciences and chemistry in English. Special courses cover modern topics of theoretical, basic, applied and experimental physics as well as technology related laboratory, field work and research with state of the art equipment.

Studies towards Bachelor and Master of Science degrees are offered for all undergraduate and graduate students respectively free of tuition fees. Also doctoral studies are possible in the BuildMoNa graduate school funded by the excellence initiative of the German Research Council.

General Information

Every student who has obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in physics (or similar, at least 60% of content equivalent) will be assessed by the Aptitude Committee, whether or not to be suggested to enroll. The committee may order a written aptitude test, for which an invitation will follow, if applicable.

The two years of master studies build upon the already obtained knowledge. Advanced courses in experimental and theoretical physics are offered, as well as a wide variety of elective courses of all of the physical institute's research groups. Independent study and research will be done throughout and until completion of a master thesis.

Enrollment/Admission Information

Every student who has obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in physics (or similar, at least 60% of content equivalent) will be assessed by the Aptitude Committee, whether or not to be suggested to enroll. The committee may order a written aptitude test, for which an invitation will follow, if applicable.

Dates for the aptitude tests will be announced seperately.

Enrollment will only take place for the winter semester, starting each year October 1st. Applications of students from foreign countries have to be in by May 15th (please note difference to Bachelor's course). The absolute application dead line for german students is September 30th.

Foreign students will address their applications directly to the Dean of the Faculty for Physics and Earth Sciences. The application must include a written resume (curriculum vitae), a certificate about the first obtained job-qualifying university degree (e.g. Bachelor of Science) or proof that this degree will be obtained at the begin of the Master studies, certificates of Intern-/Externships and other relevant activities and if applicable any certificates of any vocational training.
