The project is mainly concerned with the analysis of conceptual event structure and its reflection in grammatical structure. The explanation of the interaction between linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge in the reconstruction of event structure in utterance interpretation is of particular interest.
One of the core phenomena to be investigated are aspectual reinterpretations, which are understood as instances of conceptual shift in event structure and therefore as the result of a contextual enrichment of grammatically determined meaning structures. Another area of interest is the role of syntax and information structure in the establishment of a particular event structure. In addition, the influence of negation on the eventuality-type referred to by an utterance will be considered. Finally, the use of experimental techniques for clarification of these questions will be examined.
