Workshop on racism in university teaching – reflection workshop for university lecturers
Racism can manifest itself in many ways in university teaching, for example through the teaching/learning materials used, through our language and also through the perspectives we try to convey.
From time to time, students point out the (re)production of racism in our teaching practice. This inevitably triggers a need for action, which we can either ignore or – by looking, listening and discussing – use productively for possible learning processes. This requirement exists not least to counteract the reinforcing effects of racism and, beyond that, to provide all students with a teaching/learning space that is mindful of racism and discrimination.
The workshop provides a collaborative space for reflection for teachers. After a dialogue-based introduction to theoretical understandings of racism and their critical relationship to teaching, selected cases from the participants' teaching practice are used to exchange experiences, reflect and explore individually appropriate options for action.
Please note: Students can only register by email. To do so, please write to chancengleichheit(a)uni-leipzig.de.
