Press release 2020/165 from

Due to the coronavirus crisis, prospective students have more time to apply to Leipzig University this year. Many application periods have been extended to allow school-leavers whose examinations are taking place later than planned to still enrol at university.

For example, this year applications for undergraduate courses with restrictions on admission can be submitted by 20 August (instead of 15 July). New students have until 30 September to enrol on programmes with no admission restrictions. For more courses of study, the University’s application portal will open on Thursday, 4 June. Applications for courses of study which participate in the “dialogue-oriented service procedure” (DoSV) are possible from 1 July. Separate application periods and deadlines apply in the case of prospective students who left school prior to this year as well as to those wishing to enrol in higher semesters of study. A summary is available on the Application Periods and Deadlines page.

Just in time for the start of this year’s application period, the University has launched www.leipzig-studieren.de, a new German-language platform covering all aspects of study orientation: which degree course is right for me? How do I apply? What can I expect when I study? With its fresh design, the new information portal is packed with information for prospective students about studying at Leipzig University. From a virtual 360-degree tour of the campus to a taster lecture on YouTube, prospective students can gain a clear insight into the current range of study programmes offered at Leipzig.

The “Leipzig studieren!” portal was made possible as part of the University-wide project “StiL – Studieren in Leipzig”. StiL serves to improve the quality of teaching and studies at Leipzig University. It is supported by the federal and state Teaching Quality Pact.

Please note that application deadlines differ for prospective students applying via uni-assist.
