On Thursday (10 December), Beijing’s Renmin University presented 1000 face masks to Leipzig University. The donation from our partner institution in China was handed over by the Managing Director of the Confucius Institute Leipzig, Linus Schlüter, to Dr Nicola Klöß, head of environmental protection and occupational safety at Leipzig University.

When presenting the masks, Linus Schlüter said that even such pragmatic forms of support are part of a healthy partnership. He stressed: “In addition to academic exchange, providing non-bureaucratic support in times of crisis is a matter of course for Renmin University.”

The disposable masks will now be distributed throughout the University. According to Nicola Klöß, they are primarily intended for members of staff who are unable to work from home, for example at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Technical Services and in the natural sciences. “We are extremely grateful for the donation and would like to thank our partner university,” emphasised Nicola Klöß.

Renmin University in Beijing has been a partner of Leipzig University for many years. Above all, the cooperation enriches academic exchange and enables students from both universities to study as guests at the partner institution. In addition, Renmin University appoints the Chinese co-director at the Confucius Institute Leipzig. The CI Leipzig was founded in 2008 and provides Chinese classes as well as cultural courses and events for members of the public.
