Lecturers at Leipzig University are invited to apply for the Arqus Teaching Excellence Award 2024/25 or to nominate their colleagues. The award recognizes outstanding teaching innovations within the Arqus European University Alliance – from research-based teaching to internationally networked university didactics. The deadline for submissions is 15 January 15 2026.

The aim of the Arqus Teaching Excellence Award is to highlight outstanding teaching. The award recognizes teachers who contribute to the further development of collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered university teaching through innovative, research-based, and internationally oriented teaching concepts. The fifth call for applications for the 2024/25 academic year is now open, and teachers at Leipzig University are once again invited to apply.

For Leipzig, the award is not unknown territory: in 2020/21, the Leipzig team led by Professor Johannes Ringel, Maeva Baudoin, and Jenny Kunhardt from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration already received the award. The last award ceremony took place in April 2025 during the Arqus Annual Conference in Leipzig.

Focus on innovative teaching approaches

For the current call for entries, teachers, students, or faculties can nominate projects that stand out for the following characteristics (not all criteria must be met):

  • Consistent use of student-centred approaches that cater to the diverse needs of learners, fostering inclusive education practices
  • Consistent use of assessment strategies and feedback methods that support learning and development, encouraging meta-reflection on and facilitating dialogue about learning processes
  • Use of research-informed didactical approaches to enhance learning outcomes
  • Incorporation of international case studies, partners, or topics to promote intercultural learning
  • Development of teaching initiatives that are transferable and adaptable to further educational contexts, promoting scalability and sustainability of the initiative.

The award ceremony will take place during the Arqus Annual Conference at Maynooth University in July 2026. Winners will be invited to share their teaching projects in a lecture or workshop with teachers from the Arqus Alliance.

Please submit your complete application using the application form by 15 January 2026 by email to teaching-award[at]arqus-alliance.eu.
