Ursula Rao is head of the department "Anthropology of Politics and Governance" at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle and Honorary Professor at Leipzig University

On September 1 2020, Ursula Rao took up her new position as head of the department „Anthropology of Politics and Governance“ at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. Together with a team she studies everyday life worlds in times of crisis to understand how sociopolitical arrangements, governance initiatives and social movements shape the present world and the future. As honorary professor at Leipzig University, she continues her commitment to the faculty of history, art and area studies and remains connected to the Institute of Anthropology. She teaches in the MA Anthropology and supervises BA and MA thesises, as well as PhD-projects on the topics politics, media and religion.
