Press release K2022/003 from

The vaccination centre at the Paulinum on Augustusplatz now also offers vaccinations for children between the ages of twelve and 17. Appointments are offered in the afternoon and can be booked through the centre’s booking portal, subject to availability.

Both first and second vaccination appointments are available. The team is administering the BioNTech vaccine only. Slots are being offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. In children and adolescents between the ages of twelve and 17 years, booster vaccinations with Comirnaty (BioNTech) may be administered, since the latest scientific findings show that this is required to protect against new virus variants. However, this is a form of “off-label use”, and as such appropriate education and documentation is required.
It is important to bring a signed consent form from all officially responsible legal guardians, the child’s vaccination booklet, an identification document, and the completed information, medical history, and consent forms. The current versions of these documents are available for download from the Robert Koch Institute website and via links in the booking portal.

Currently, appointments can be booked on 11, 12 and 13 January. Additional dates will be released one week in advance depending on vaccine availability.

Already 5000 citizens vaccinated

After Leipzig University Hospital opened the vaccination centre in the Paulinum on Augustusplatz on 14 December, some 5000 vaccinations had been performed there by the end of the year. “The majority are booster vaccinations, but we regularly have visitors who receive a second or even first vaccination,” said Professor Michael Schaefer, who coordinates the vaccination centre. The vaccination appointments between the public holidays were also fully booked. Currently, the vaccination teams are expecting more people to be interested in booster vaccinations, now that the period for this has been shortened to three months after basic immunisation or previous illness. “We have adjusted the registration forms accordingly and stand ready to provide timely booster vaccinations in these cases now as well,” Schaefer said.
