Abstract

Sven Stollfuß is a junior professor for digital media culture. His research and teaching areas are television and digital media, social media, social TV, and participatory media and production cultures. He is currently working on new forms of social TV as well as on forms and practices of self-representation on social media. Before taking his position at the University of Leipzig he worked as a research associate at the University of Bayreuth (Department of Media Studies), the University of Mannheim (Institute of Media and Communication Studies), and the Philipps-University Marburg (Institute of Media Studies). Moreover, he was a visiting researcher in Istanbul and Amiens.

In my research I am interested in media cultural transformations caused by digital and social media. My research revolves around the changed dynamics of connective media processes and participatory communication practices in the multi-platform environment of the digital age. In terms of theoretical and methodical perspectives, I use approaches from the fields of media and cultural studies, and social sciences.

My teaching areas are television and digital media, social media, social TV, and participatory media and production cultures. Within the major fields of study at the Institute of Communication and Media Studies, I am mainly concerned with questions in the context of digital media culture and media literacy, and with challenges due to transmedia and crossmedia practices.

  • Approaches and Methods of Media Cultural Analysis: Digital Media and Apparatus Analysis

    Im Zuge der Transformationen, die in den vergangenen Jahren mit den Umgestaltungen von Alltag, Kultur und Gesellschaft im Kontext des Medienwandels als Mediatisierung beschrieben worden sind, steigt die Relevanz der analytischen Auseinandersetzung mit den entsprechend veränderten mediendispositiven Rahmenbedingungen. Im Seminar werden konzeptionelle Grundlagen und methodische Aspekte der Dispositivanalyse erarbeitet und in Projektgruppen forschungslogisch perspektiviert.

  • Introduction to the Major Field of Study in Media Culture and Media Pedagogy

    Studierende dieser Übung erarbeiten sich vertiefende Einblicke zu den Vorlesungsinhalten. Thematisch erschließen sie sich dabei die Medienkultur und Medienbildung in ihren Grundannahmen und Perspektiven, Herangehensweisen und Gegenständen sowie aktuellen und fortwährenden Auseinandersetzungen. Die Übung ist dabei als Wechselspiel zwischen inhaltlicher Hinführung und praktischer Aneignung konzipiert.
