Digital Storytelling Production in International Media Organizations

Due to the format of digital storytelling, media organizations have the possibility to display complex topics in a user-oriented, immersive and multimedia way. By combining text, photo, audio, video, interactive graphics and further digital features within one web page, users have the chance to consume in-depth content and explore such stories individually. Although the production of digital storytelling has first been monopolized by big newspaper outlets such as The New York Times or The Washington Post, the number of mid-sized and smaller news outlets producing such stories is increasing. Within the realms of a dissertation project and under consideration of current digital trends (such as augmented reality, newsgames, robots, drones, big data), it is the aim to generate an international assessment of the current practices within storytelling production. Thereby, different studies that are both rooted in research and in practice contribute to the overall research interest, as for example a systematic review of international journal articles concerning the topic as well as a newsroom observation in international newsrooms.
