Research assistants and collaborators: Dr. Luise Fischer, Lea Fobel, Esther Benning (until March 2023)
Amount of funding: 1,605,273.46 EUR
Duration: 1.12.2019 until 30.11.2024
Supporting the projects of the funding guideline
The MetaKLuB meta-project supports the research projects and bundles the results of the funding guideline on cultural arts education in rural areas in three central areas: through its own research, through the networking of the funded projects with each other and with experts from science and practice, and finally through the processing of the results obtained for an interested public.
Scientific expertise on cultural arts education in rural areas
Regarding the first focal point, research, the meta-project bundles the findings of the individual projects and links them to the international state of research. To this end, secondary data and publications on the topic of the funding guideline are evaluated: With a systematic review of national and international literature, the meta project develops a comprehensive overview of developments, focal points and desiderata in research on Cultural Arts Education in Rural Areas. In addition, MetaKLuB uses quantitative methods to analyse existing secondary data on cultural education and cultural participation in rural areas. Results are brought together to form a theoretical framework into which the individual projects of the funding guideline can be placed. Finally, ideas for future research are generated.
Bridging function and hub
In the context of the second focal point, networking, the meta-project coordinates the organisation of conferences, workshops, further training, and the promotion of academic staff. A scientific advisory board with proven experts from various fields of cultural arts education in practice and academia accompanies and advises the funding guideline and the work of the meta-project. Initial training courses are held, for example, on research data management or science communication. Once a year, the research projects of the funding guideline meet at the University of Leipzig for a networking conference.
Knowledge for the public
The third focal point of the meta-project focuses on press and public relations work and thus the sustainable transfer of findings into practice and the public. Among other things, results and developments from the research projects of the funding guideline are announced on this website. A calendar of events, news from the meta-project and the projects of the funding guideline and the area of cultural arts education in rural areas can also be found here. There are also regular blog posts on events and topics that take place in the context of cultural arts education. For the ears, there is our podcast KuBiLand. You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
Through these formats, key content is linked, prepared, and communicated.
In a nutshell
Everything at a glance: We answer the most important questions about us and our project
Until March 2023, our team worked at the Chair of Political Education headed by Professor Nina Kolleck at the University of Leipzig. The project was implemented by three research fellows: Dr Luise Fischer, Lea Fobel and Esther Benning. Luise Fischer was a post-doc and project coordinator. Her research focuses on (inter)cultural and political education, educational systems, and transformation. Together with Nina Kolleck, she also conducted the qualitative analyses. Lea Fobel coordinated the quantitative part of the project as a doctoral student and research assistant. In particular, she conducted analyses of existing data on cultural arts education and cultural participation in rural areas. Esther Benning was responsible for public relations and science communication. The staff were supported by four research assistants: Felica Selz, Malin Nissen, Svenja Samstag, and Sophia Bader.
As a meta-project, we do not investigate cultural education in rural areas on the basis of primary research, i.e. by collecting our own data, as many of the other projects in the funding guidelines do. Instead, we rely on secondary data and publications from research projects that have already been carried out for the overview research. Thus, in a research overview, we systematise different approaches and perspectives on cultural arts education in rural areas and draw further conclusions from already existing quantitative data sets. In addition, we bundle findings from the individual projects in the funding guideline and develop a theoretical framework from the different approaches and disciplinary perspectives of the research projects. Furthermore, we support the individual and collaborative projects of the funding guideline in networking and cooperation in the funding guideline and in the transfer of knowledge to practice and the public.
We work with both qualitative and quantitative methods. The systematic review provides an overview and analyses of previously published research in the thematic field of the funding guideline; both in the German-speaking and in the international English-speaking context. On the basis of results and classifications in the individual research projects, we develop a theoretical framework that is intended to provide a starting point for further research. In addition, we are using quantitative methods to examine existing data sets, among other things with a view to potentials, obstacles, conditions for success, and opportunities for participation in cultural arts education in rural areas.
The meta-project takes on a coordinating and connecting function within the funding guideline. In addition to our own research on cultural arts education, the focus is on coordinating the cooperation of the participating research projects. In view of the broad professional orientation with the participation of different disciplines in education, social sciences, humanities and cultural studies, the meta project has an important bridging function within the funding guideline in bringing together and processing the findings for science, practice, and the public.
