At Leipzig University, we support junior researchers in the pursuit of individual doctorates under our Leipzig Excellence Fund for Young Researchers (LE4YOU). Funded by LE4YOU, UL offers two First Stage Researcher (R1) positions (0.65 FTE, E13) as a contribution to excellent support for early career researchers. Successful applicants should use the three-year funding period to carry out their doctoral project and gain valuable teaching experience.

Procedure

The Graduate Commission, chaired by the Vice-Rector for Talent Development and including Department 1, the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, representatives from the office of the Vice-Rector for Excellence Development and the Graduate Academy Leipzig, decides which applications to approve.

Under the Leipzig Excellence Fund for Young Researchers (LE4YOU), two First Stage Researcher (R1) positions (0.65 FTE, E13) are offered for a period of three years.

  • Application deadline: 30 June
  • Start of funding: 1 October

Overview of application documents

Please submit the following documents by the deadline:

  • Informal request with letter of motivation, including co-signature of the supervisor
  • Project proposal with publications, timetable and milestone plan, including planned research stays (max. 8 pages)
  • Copies of certificates
  • curriculum vitae
  • Supervision agreement and guarantee that the necessary infrastructure will be in place for the work to be carried out
  • if applicable, list of publications

Application and selection

Applications are open to candidates who hold a master’s, teaching or state examination degree from a German or international university entitling them to study for a doctorate in Germany. They should

  • have an excellent academic record and
  • currently be in the transitional period at the end of their university studies (maximum six months before and eight months after graduation).
