ment Research

„Experimental and anthropological perspectives on early childhood“

The symposium aims at introducing the research field of early childhood development. The focus is on the age group between 0 and 6 years and includes:

a) approaches from psychological, neuro-, cognitive, and linguistic perspectives aimed at understanding both cognitive development and early social interaction;

b) anthropological, cultural, cultural psychological, and comparative methods and theoretical perspectives.

Part of the strategic planning of the Universität Leipzig is to establish a centre for the scientific study of early childhood development. This centre is intended to merge and extend the scientific expertise of the academic and extramural scientific resources in the city of Leipzig, most notably in the fields educational science, psychology, and philosophy/anthropology of culture. The planning includes the participation of both Max Planck Institutes for Evolutionary Anthropology and Human Cognition and Brain Sciences.

The symposium takes place on 30 november and 1 december 2012 in the New Augusteum at the Augustusplatz, in the lecture hall “Felix Klein”. Participation is free of charge, but please register.
