Leipzig Neuseenland (New Lakeland)

You may be surprised to know that the surrounding area of Leipzig is characterised by a multitude of lakes and is, therefore, also known as New Lakeland. From the train station you can visit most of the lakes by bus or tram in around half an hour.

Lake Cospuden is situated in the South of Leipzig and is one of the most popular destinations in New Lakeland. Each year, thousands of bathers are attracted by the fine sandy beaches and many cyclists and inline skaters use the 11km tarmac footpath around the lake. Lake Cospuden is part of the New Lakeland network. It will soon be possible to travel from Leipzig to Lake Cospuden and also to  Lake Zwenkau by boat.

Lake Kulkwitz, Lake Markkleeberg and Lake Störmthal are also perfect for relaxing, bathing or going for a stroll.
