The European Union supports long-term research stays with "Postdoctoral Fellowships". The aim is to prepare postdoctoral researchers for a career in academia or business, both professionally and through soft skills. This happens within a research project. International, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral mobility is the central element of the funding instrument.

Leipzig University supports applicants who envisage to choose Leipzig University as host institution by offering a free, two-day workshop.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2021

The publication of the call for Postdoctoral Fellowships (formerly known as Individual Fellowships) is expected for 15 April 2021, the deadline for applications is expected to be 15 September 2021.

Leipzig University would be keen to host ambitious and skilled fellows in all fields of research. So if you are eligible for a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship and interested to come to Leipzig for a two year research stay, please convince a suitable supervisor of your qualities. In case you don't know the best supervisor in your field so far, please search in our research portal for your best match.

As soon as a researcher of Leipzig University has committed to supervise your research project, you can apply for a free, two-day workshop to optimise your proposal. The workshop will take place 23/24 June 2021 in Leipzig (or, in case of travel restrictions, virtually). Detailed information incl. the agenda and an application form you find in the event flyer (see "downloads" in the right column).

Candidates from ARQUS institutions

Candidates from partners of Leipzig University in the European University Alliance ARQUS can apply for reimbursement of travel costs to Leipzig at their home institutions. If you need assistance, please contact Gerhard Fuchs.

Applicants from all fields of research are welcome, but we would like to draw ARQUS candidates' special attention to the fields with big intersections between ARQUS members, for example Digital Humanities, Climate Change, Biodiversity, Cancer Research, Artificial Intelligence, Changing Societies, etc.

If you are a Postdoc at Leipzig University and are interested to go for a MSCA PF with one or our ARQUS partners, you can get support as well. You find contact persons on the ARQUS website or contact Gerhard Fuchs.

Leipzig University as Host Institution

First of all, check out our range of expertise in your research area. Given the broad range of research undertaken at the university, it is highly likely that you will find a highly qualified senior con-investigator who could support your application. If you find a potential supervisor, please contact him/her or the EU project officer to register your interest. We will be happy to work with you to develop your ideas into a good joint application and potentially to go all the way to a successful project.
