African Studies is a non-consecutive and research-oriented master programme. Its subject is Africa - focusing on Sub-Sahara past and present. The master programme lasts 4 semesters and comprises seven selected compulsory elective modules, a period spent abroad/research project/internship, an oral examination and a master’s dissertation. The compulsory elective modules, some of which are held in German and some in English, relate to history, culture, economics, politics, linguistics and practical learning of a (second) African language in common use (Hausa or Swahili).
