The programme does not concentrate on one specific language but on the wide variety of natural languages, their inner structure, their cognitive requirements, their function and historical changes. Thus linguistics is located in the overlap between arts, social sciences and natural sciences its studies are closely linked with numerous other disciplines, such as the individual philologies, psychology, neuroscience, computer science, philosophy and ethnology. Students on this programme will learn about grammatical principles and rules at the different levels of the language system - from sounds through to meanings and their implementation in language use. Students will be able to work with different formal, empirical and technical processes to portray and explain language data.
