International Master of Chemistry and Biotechnology

Master of Science. (M.Sc.)

Admission to the master programme International Master of Chemistry and Biotechnology is subject to fulfilment of the following requirements:

- Chemistry or a related bachelor in the natural sciences

- English at C1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference)

The subject-specific admission requirements will be examined in the course of application via the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy.

The three-semester intensive study programme (120 credits) is offered as part of our cooperation with Ohio University in Athens, US.

This English-language, research-oriented international study programme is intended as a consecutive master following a six-semester bachelor programme. The study programme, which covers broad areas of chemistry and opens up a wide range of opportunities for students, is organised as follows: Students commence studying in Ohio, where they complete a specialisation in technical modules and a research project together with students of Ohio University. Afterwards, the whole group moves to Leipzig to complete another specialisation, again including a research project. In the third semester, the master thesis can be written in one of the specialist fields either in Ohio or in Leipzig, or in cooperation.

Making the most of the different academic calendars, particularly gifted students can complete the programme in three semesters. Specialisations can be chosen from the areas of "Analytics & Forensics", "Inorganic Chemistry & Material Science", "Biochemistry & Biotechnology", "Organic Chemistry & Active Ingredients", "Physical, Theoretical & Technical Chemistry". The focus is on modern measurement techniques and concepts.

The international character of the programme means that graduates receive a special qualification for professional challenges in the international context.

The entire programme is taught in English.

All students are required to attend both universities, beginning in Ohio.
Successful graduates will receive a double degree from Ohio University and Leipzig University.
