Refocusing Your Studies
If you are already enrolled at Leipzig but concerned that your course might not be the right one for you, you may want to consider changing degree programmes or individual subjects. Please use the online application system on the AlmaWeb portal. If you are transferring to another degree programme at our university, please take note of the normal application periods and deadlines for degree programmes with or without admission restrictions.
Changing degree programmes and taking a leave of absence in the same semester are mutually exclusive. It is not possible to apply for both at the same time.
- If your preferred degree programme is subject to admission restrictions, please apply online via the AlmaWeb portal.
Please follow our instructions:- for the first semester of study on locally restricted degree programmes
- for higher semesters of study on locally restricted degree programmes
- After the admission procedure, a letter of admission, or rejection, will be deposited in your AlmaWeb account. You will find this letter under “Studies” > “Documents”.
- If you have been offered your desired place, please send the signed declaration of acceptance together with the necessary documents to the Student Office by the deadline. This declaration of acceptance and details of the required documents will be enclosed with your letter of admission.
- Your change of study programme will not be completed until you have paid the semester fee and submitted all the necessary documents.
We will not send you a separate request for payment. It is therefore up to you to remember to pay the semester fee promptly.

If your preferred degree programme is not subject to admission restrictions, please apply online via the AlmaWeb portal. To do this, submit your application online and then generate your application for enrolment. Follow the instructions in the AlmaWeb portal.
- Alternatively, you can also generate the application for enrolment by clicking on the print link in the “Actions” column of your application overview. The application will then be opened as a PDF document and saved in your AlmaWeb account under “Account” -> “Documents”.
- Print out the application form, complete and sign it. Then send it to the Student Office before the deadline together with the required documents. The application form will list the required documents.

- You will need to have previously gained credits checked by the competent examination board. The examination board will decide which of the credits from your previous studies can be accepted and will issue you with a credits form.
- Please apply for the corresponding semester of study online through the AlmaWeb portal, paying attention to the information on transferring to a restricted or unrestricted programme. Please also be aware of the special requirements for applications for higher semesters of study.
Changing degree programmes has no effect on your enrolment number, login information or student email address. These are all unique to you and stay the same throughout your time at Leipzig University.
