In a video, spokesperson of the deans of the faculties Professor Rose Marie Beck explains the current rules for the upcoming exams. She states that the faculty examination boards have set individual deadlines for students wishing to withdraw their registration for an exam.

The study and examination regulations for individual degree programmes are the responsibility of the relevant faculties. Therefore, the examination boards responsible for the individual faculties have published adapted rules for examinations in the current winter semester, in order to take into account the current pandemic situation. The rules are available on the faculty websites. A compilation can be found on the coronavirus website. This provides an overview of the deadlines for withdrawing your registration for exams and where you can find the specific information. You will also find information about whether exams will be held in person or online. The decisions taken by the examination boards mean that there will be a legally sound basis for all examinations.

Each examination board has made its own decision on this matter after extensive consultations for the respective subject areas. For this reason, there is no general deadline applicable to all students for withdrawing a registration for an examination, as was previously the case. Please check the pages mentioned to find out the deadline for withdrawing your registration for your examinations, or ask your lecturers.

Otherwise, everything will be largely the same as in the past. You decide for yourself whether your level of knowledge will meet the requirements for the exams and, therefore, whether you want to take the exams. If you withdraw your registration on time, then the examination will not count.

As always, you will need a doctor’s note or proof of quarantine if you wish to withdraw your registration at short notice beyond the deadline set for your exam. You will absolutely be required to submit this proof, if not immediately then later on.

If you have questions or concerns about taking exams, be sure to speak to someone responsible for your faculty, or to your lecturers. They will be able to give you clear answers and help you to solve any problems. Take advantage of all the opportunities to prepare for the exams in groups with your fellow students or your lecturers.

I hope you make wise decisions for the upcoming exams. Remember that it can make sense to opt out in time. But it may be just as well to throw your doubts overboard and take the exam. Whatever you decide, we’ll finish this winter semester together.
