The talk will offer some reflections on the place of China in the global humanities. Drawing on contemporary and historical examples, it will assess the study of China in the European and North American academic landscapes. In this context, it will provide some comparative perspectives on the transregional/global research agendas emanating from these fields. Secondly, it will offer some reflections on the entanglements of the Chinese humanities with academic circles in various parts of the world. On that basis, it will – thirdly – offer some reflections on the global condition of the humanities.
