Zugleich ist das Impfgeschehen in vollem Gange. Die politischen Akteure in Bund und Ländern ermöglichen vor diesem Hintergrund viele verschiedene Öffnungsschritte. In Bezug auf die Hochschulen sieht die neue Sächsische Corona-Schutzverordnung vor, dass die Durchführung von Präsenzlehrveranstaltungen prinzipiell möglich und durch die Hochschulen selbst zu regeln ist.
Wir wollen Schritt für Schritt verantwortungsvoll weitere Öffnungen ermöglichen. Diese Schritte erfolgen unter Beachtung des aktuellen Hygienekonzepts, sie sind aber auch abhängig von technischen Möglichkeiten und Sicherheitserfordernissen. Um Planungssicherheit zu geben, hatte das Rektorat bekanntlich Ende Februar beschlossen, dass das Sommersemester grundsätzlich mit digitalen Lehrveranstaltungen bestritten wird. Daran rütteln wir nicht. Nach Beratungen in Krisenstab und Rektorat können wir mitteilen:
- Die Lehrveranstaltungen werden grundsätzlich digital fortgesetzt.
- Zusätzliche, lehrergänzende Präsenzangebote für Kleingruppen können angeboten werden. Ihre Lehrenden werden das mit Ihnen abstimmen. Die aktuellen Infektionsschutz- und Hygieneregelungen sind dabei einzuhalten.
- Praktika, praktische Übungen, Labortätigkeiten, studienvorbereitende Maßnahmen (Studienkolleg) sowie künstlerische Ausbildungsabschnitte können wie gehabt in Präsenz stattfinden. Diese Lehrveranstaltungen können auch über das Vorlesungsende hinaus weitergeführt werden, um Ausfälle zu kompensieren. Darüber werden Sie dann frühzeitig (das heißt vier bis sechs Wochen im Voraus) informiert.
- Die Universitätsbibliothek bietet erweiterte Öffnungszeiten. Die Maskenpflicht am Arbeitsplatz entfällt.
- Grundsätzlich sollen die Fakultätsgebäude ab 1. Juli öffnen. Ermöglicht werden dann zum Beispiel Einzel- oder Kleingruppenberatungen und der Zugang zu Kommunikationsbereichen. Auch administrative Anliegen können mit entsprechender Terminvereinbarung in Präsenz geregelt werden. Die konkrete Umsetzung erfolgt durch die Fakultätsleitungen. Informationen dazu finden Sie auf der jeweiligen Website Ihrer Fakultät.
- Das Leibniz-Forum am Augustusplatz ist ab heute, 18. Juni, vorläufig werktags zwischen 9 und 15:45 Uhr geöffnet.
- Das zentrale Hörsaal- und Seminargebäude am Augustusplatz bleibt bis zum 19. September 2021 geschlossen.
Ein wichtiges Thema für Sie sind natürlich auch die anstehenden Prüfungen. Als Hochschulleitung empfehlen wir für dieses Semester, an dem Vorrang digitaler Prüfungen festzuhalten. Die entsprechenden Regelungen treffen die zuständigen Prüfungsausschüsse. Die Modulverantwortlichen informieren Sie über die Termine und den Prüfungsablauf. Die Annullierung von nicht bestandenen Prüfungsleistungen und die Verlängerung von Fristen bleibt grundsätzlich bis 30. September 2021 bestehen.
Wir möchten Ihnen auch für das kommende Wintersemester 2021/22 bereits eine erste Orientierung geben. Natürlich können wir noch nicht vorhersehen, wie sich die pandemische Lage entwickelt. Aber für uns steht fest, dass wir Ihnen die persönliche Begegnung untereinander und mit Ihren Lehrenden ermöglichen wollen, so viel und so oft es geht. Es wird sich lohnen, in Leipzig zu sein, es wird Präsenzveranstaltungen und hybride Formate geben, auch der Hauptcampus am Augustusplatz wird wieder geöffnet sein. Über Umfang, Intensität und Häufigkeit der Präsenzangebote werden wir beziehungsweise Ihre Fakultäten Sie so früh wie möglich informieren.
Natürlich haben wir auch das Thema Impfangebote für Studierende im Blick und versuchen hierfür eine rasche Lösung zu finden, wobei auch die Landesregierung gefordert ist. Selbstverständlich werden Sie schnellstmöglich informiert, wenn es hierzu Klarheit gibt.

Student email 4/21: Pandemic update
Dear student,
We can all be pleased that the number of coronavirus infections is steadily decreasing. You have also played your part in this – thank you!
At the same time, the vaccination campaign is in full swing. Against this backdrop, political decision makers at federal and state level are lifting many of the restrictions. With regard to local higher education institutions, the new coronavirus rules applicable in Saxony stipulate that in-person teaching is possible in principle, and to be decided on by the institutions themselves.
We want to gradually lift further restrictions, in a responsible manner. These steps will comply with our current hygiene concept, but also depend on what is technically feasible as well as safety requirements. To help everyone plan ahead, the Rectorate announced at the end of February that teaching would in principle be held online this summer semester. We will stick to this decision. Following consultations in the crisis management team and the Rectorate, we can announce:
- As a rule, teaching will continue to be held online.
- It is however possible to offer additional, supplementary in-person teaching for small groups. Your lecturers will arrange this with you. The current infection protection and hygiene regulations must be observed.
- Practical courses (Praktika), practical classes, laboratory work, preparatory courses (Studienkolleg Sachsen) and artistic training phases may still take place physically. In order to compensate for cancellations, these courses may continue beyond the end of the lecture period. If this is the case, you will be informed in good time (i.e. four to six weeks in advance).
- The University Library has extended its opening hours. Users are no longer required to wear a mask when using study desks.
- Faculty buildings are generally scheduled to open on 1 July. This will enable things like consultations for individuals or small groups, and access to communication areas. Administrative matters can also be dealt with in person by making an appointment. The heads of the individual faculties are responsible for implementing these changes. Please check your faculty’s website for more information.
- From today, 18 June, the Leibniz Forum on Augustusplatz is provisionally open on weekdays from 9am until 3.45pm.
- The central lecture hall and seminar building at Augustusplatz will remain closed until 19 September 2021.
The upcoming exam season is of course another important topic for you. We as the University management are recommending that the focus on conducting exams online be kept for this semester. The relevant regulations are made by the responsible examination boards. Your module coordinators will inform you of the dates and the examination procedure. The cancellation of failed examinations and the extension of deadlines will in principle remain in force until 30 September 2021.
We would also like to give you some early information about the upcoming winter semester 2021/22. Of course, we cannot predict how the pandemic situation will develop. But for us it is clear that we want to enable you to meet each other and your lecturers in person – as much and as often as possible. Coming to Leipzig will be well worth while! There will be in-person teaching and hybrid formats, and the main campus at Augustusplatz will also be open again. We and your faculties will inform you as early on as possible about how much teaching will be possible on campus, and how often.
Another important topic for us, of course, is the question of offering vaccinations for students. We are trying to find a quick solution for this, which will also require the assistance of the state government. Rest assured that we will inform you as soon as possible once there is clarity on this matter.
