The Rector of Leipzig University, Professor Eva Inés Obergfell, was officially admitted to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) at a ceremony in Salzburg on Saturday (6 April 2024). The legal scholar was elected by the Senate of the Academy in October 2023 as an ordinary member of Class V (Social Sciences, Law and Economics).

“It is a great honour to be admitted to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. I was delighted to be nominated and elected last autumn. I am looking forward to engaging in dialogue with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines,” says Professor Obergfell.

Founded in Salzburg in 1990, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts is a non-governmental, European association committed to promoting scientific and societal progress. Its transnational and interdisciplinary network of some 2000 members includes leading scientists, artists, and practitioners of governance from all over the world, including 37 Nobel laureates. Members of the Academy are elected for their outstanding achievements in science, the arts, and governance.
