Abstract

Career: After her studies at the Technical University of Berlin and state exam for food chemists, Claudia Wiesner obtained her PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam/Golm and then worked as a postdoc in Rothamsted Research, a research institute of the BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) in Hertfordshire, UK, in the field of chemical ecology.

Position and Duties: Since 2006, Claudia Wiesner has been a working group leader for mass spectrometry at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy, University of Leipzig. In this position, she manages the faculty's own service for mass spectrometric measurements, which can be used by university members and external partners. The research of the working group focuses method development for the life sciences. Claudia Wiesner has been a full member of the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig since 2022.

more cooperations

  • Seminar and practical course to „Molecular spectroscopy“

  • Course 5: "mass spectrometry" of the postgraduate programm "Analytics and Spectroscopy"

  • Lecture "Mass spectrometry" of the postgraduate study "Toxicology and Environmental Protection"

  • Practical Moldules and Master projects in Mass Spectrometry

Topics for scientific projects in our working group include the application of hyphenated techniques such as GC-MS and LC-MS in biological experiments as well as the development of methods for specific questions from collaborations with life sciences researchers. Another complex is the research of ionization techniques in modern mass spectrometry.
