Grand piano
Johann Nepomuk Tröndlin
Leipzig
circa 1830
Inv.-Nr. 3191
Fortepiano exhibited in  The Viennese Pianoforte

sound Four Mazurkas Op. 24, No. 2 in A minor (extract)
Frédéric Chopin
from the CD  Mazurken und Nocturnes

Photographer: Janos Stekovics

This instrument's heavy body and contrasting delicate, curved legs lend it a somewhat quirky appearance. Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy as well as Robert and Clara Schumann praised Tröndlin's Viennese-stile pianos, and until 1860 Tröndlin's instruments were used in Leipzig's Gewandhaus. They were known and loved for their even and smooth sound.
