2012-01-16, 16:45	Dysfunction of the auditory thalamus in developmental dyslexia Dr. Begoña Díaz Max-Planck-Institut für Kognitions- und Neurowissenschaften Leipzig Developmental dyslexia, a severe and persistent reading and spelling impairment, is characterized by difficulties in processing speech sounds (i.e., phonemes). In this talk I will present two functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies that reveal an auditory thalamic dysfunction in adult dyslexics in tasks that require the particular analysis of the most transient, fast components of speech. These results unite influential theories of dyslexia within a predictive coding framework of brain function.
