In her dissertation, veterinarian Karoline Rieckmann worked intensively on the development of vaccines against S. suis.

Karoline Rieckmann has been a research assistant at the Institute of Bacteriology and Mycology since 2015. During her research activities she has published four papers in international journals, which she summarised in her dissertation entitled "Characterization of neglected Streptococcus suis pathotypes: molecular epidemiology and IdeSsuis-based vaccination approaches". Her results are an important step towards vaccine development against Streptococcus suis (S. suis) - one of the most important invasive bacterial pathogens in pigs. Karoline Rieckmann received the Research Prize 2020 of the German Association of Veterinary Practitioners (Bundesverband Praktizierender Tierärzte e.V.) for her outstanding research achievements. She successfully defended her dissertation on 13.10.2020 in the Herbert Gürtler House of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. We congratulate her warmly on this success.
