Abstract:

Neurovascular defects underlie and promote all major neural pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease. Our work focuses on identifying metabolic factors that trigger neurovascular breakdown and subsequent neural dysfunction. During my talk, I will share examples of our work - where we have identified metabolites that trigger neurovascular breakdown in developmental syndromes, metabolic disease, and neurodegeneration. A better understanding of how neural vessels maintain brain homeostasis, how their dysregulation promotes disease, how they communicate with other neural cells, and the ultimate therapeutic targeting of neurovascular health will be critical for targeting a range of neural disorders such as dementia that are underpinned by vascular defects.
