The candidate should represent the entire field of British Cultural Studies. The candidate should have excellent knowledge of the Cultural History of Great Britain and Ireland as well as the theories and methods of Cultural Studies in terms of teaching as well as research.

The candidate should have an excellent research background in British Cultural Studies, documented by relevant publications, ideally a monograph in this field. His or her research focus may be situated in the areas of media theory and media cultures, the cultural identity of the British Isles in their European and global context, transculturalism, and/or contemporary or historical pop-cultural phenomena.

Teaching responsibility comprises all modules in the field of British Cultural Studies in the BA English Studies, MA Global British Studies, and teacher training programmes. The candidate should also have experience in acquiring third-party funding and in academic self-administration. Furthermore, active participation in the interdisciplinary teaching and research profile of the department, in the cooperation between the departments and a contribution to the research focus of the Faculty of Philology is expected. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will co-operate with existing research facilities like ReCentGlobe.
