Abstract

Simon Johanning conducts research at the intersection of agent-based modeling, socio-techno-economic energy systems, and digitalization. His work focuses on the exploratory modeling of household decisions regarding the adoption of sustainable technologies—particularly in the areas of photovoltaics, dynamic energy tariffs and sustainable heat technologies. Methodologically, he combines agent-based modeling approaches with empirical findings to represent complex social systems.

Further research interests include the digitalization of the energy sector, such as blockchain-based peer-to-peer energy trading, as well as model-based decision support for transformation processes. With an interdisciplinary background in computer science, mathematics, and energy systems modeling, he works on both the methodological and practical advancement of data-driven simulation approaches for analyzing technological diffusion processes.
