Essentials of Academic Writing: Register and Style
Students will focus on elements of academic English related to register and style, gain an understanding of other special features of academic English, and practice these skills at both the sentence and text levels.
This workshop is designed to help you improve your academic writing in English. You will gain tools you can use to write using a register and style that is appropriate for academic English. We will focus on several related stylistic features from using a consistent variant of English to choosing the proper level of formality and knowing how to select the best word or collocation. We will also look at other special features of academic English such as negation, phrasal verbs, and adverb placement. By the end of this workshop, you will be better equipped to approach and successfully complete academic writing tasks.
